Next week end, on August 13th, 14th and 15th, Monotréal will be holding its second edition of “Monotréal’s Week End”. This event includes flatland battles, a Street competition (with the new rules, group sessions), a speed trials competition, a high jump and long jump competition (we will probably be testing a new and original way of judging both of these) and a Muni competition.
The goal of this week end is to promote unicycling in general, to discover the city from another point of view, to spot new and upcoming talents and mostly to have a great time !
Everyone is welcomed, if you want more informations, you can go check out the full schedule over www.monotreal.ca or send me a comment.
Last summer I filmed me doing 360 unispins in super slow motion (300fps on my camera) to help someone with the hand positionning on 3-6 unispin. Julia B. commented on my video asking to make the same thing with 540 unispins since the video fo 360 helped her alot. So I went outside and filmed some 540 unispin and added a nice voice over with some tips I usually give about 540 unispins. So if you’re in the learning or you want to learn to, I invite you to check out my tutorial!

Hello everyone. This weeks photo is of Neil Phillips, it was taken by myself during the Velopulooza festival! The box that Neil is dropping onto was extremely unstable so we asked a friend to hold one side while Sean held the other. Just goes to show you that there are some trials line you can’t do alone, be it becasue you need someone to hold it or you need someone to help you get amped up, this is why it is always helpful to ride with people.
If you live in a small town and there are no other unicyclists, get out there and teach some of your friends. Or start up a class at your local rec center, maybe you will even get paid.
If you live in a large town with a number of unicyclists but none of them get together, start up a club and organize some regular rides. It is often as easy as setting up a mailing list so that people can easily contact each other.
Hello all, hope your enjoying your summer! This week’s photo is of Alison Michan, a rider whom is new to the trials scene. If you can believe it this photo was taken on her very first trials ride. We have been riding a fair amount and she has improved at a rapid pace, just wait for a more current photo!
For all of you who are thinking of getting into trials, the beach is a great place to start. The various logs and rocks help you learn how to control your unicycle and if you fall your only going to be falling into sand. Also depending on the beach it will allow you to practice and do some huge moves. Beach trials and natural trials in general is very technical, because whenever you gap or ride your doing so on rounded or off centered objects, and this can make it frustrating. But if you learn how to ride trials on the beach it will help you develop all of the technical ability that you will need as you progress.
